About

Welcome to my new website! I have set this blog up to document my and share my experiences. Currently, I am working as a volunteer English teacher with the Saint John’s Abbey Benedictine Volunteer Corps, or BVC, in Esquipulas, Guatemala. This town in eastern Guatemala, near the border with Honduras and El Salvador is known as the faith capital of Central America, and is home to the largest Catholic church in Central America- La Basílica del Señor de Esquipulas.

Currently I am living in the Benedictine abbey attatched to this basilica, known in Spanish as Abadía de Jesucristo Crucificado. While here for the next 12 months, I will be working at Colegio San Benito, a private school run by the monastery and adjacent to the basilica. In addition to this primary work, I will be assisting with other work around the monastery and within the community of Esquipulas.

With this blog, I hope to post semi-regular updates on the things I am doing, the lessons I am learning, and the places I will travel to outside of Esquipulas. Welcome, and enjoy!
